SAN ANTONIO, TX. – According to KSAT, 23-year-old Taylor McCowan was pronounced dead on Saturday, two weeks after a wrong-way collision with a deputy US Marshal on Loop 1604. SAPD reports that Johnathan Jones, 40, was traveling the wrong direction in a pickup truck when he hit McCowan’s vehicle head-on. The crash occurred on the city’s northwest side, near the Babcock Road exit.
Jones was arrested on intoxication assault charges immediately after the crash. Charges for intoxication manslaughter are expected now that the victim has passed away.
McCowan’s mother told KSAT that her daughter sustained permanent brain damage in the crash. She was trapped in the vehicle for a short time after the collision and was transported by EMS to University Hospital in serious condition.
Christopher Bozeman, a spokesman for the US Marshals Service issued a statement, saying: “We take seriously any allegation of misconduct by our personnel and an internal investigation will be conducted.”
Jones has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the San Antonio Police Department’s investigation of the accident.
