Woman critically injured after crashing into poles in South San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX – According to KSAT, a woman was critically injured and had to be rescued with the Jaws of Life after crashing her car into two poles in South San Antonio Wednesday morning.

San Antonio police say the crash occurred on the 8500 block of Somerset Road around 7:00 a.m.

Authorities say that, for reasons that remain unclear, the driver crashed into a pole, and the force of the initial collision sent the vehicle spinning into a second pole.

According to police, the driver was extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life, at which point the woman was able to communicate with authorities.

The driver, a woman in her late teens or early twenties, was taken by EMS to a hospital. Her name has not been released.

The crash caused power outages in the area nearby. CPS Energy crews are currently working to restore power.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
