HIDALGO COUNTY, TX – According to KRGV, one teen was killed and another was injured in a DWI crash on Sunday.
The crash took place on Owassa Road between Val Verde Road and Tower Road, north of Alamo, at around 10 p.m. Sunday. A speeding vehicle struck two pedestrians and a dog. 15-year-old Liza Cavazos was killed in the crash and 14-year-old Santiago Tapiawas seriously injured.
The driver involved in the crash, 37-year-old Maricella Escobar, was arrested following the accident. Escobar has been charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. Escobar has been arrested for drunk driving three times before: once in 2011, once in 2012, and again in 2016.
