SAN ANTONIO, TX – One person is dead after an alleged drunk driver collided with a utility pole on W Commerce near NW 36th Street Wednesday, according to KSAT.
Matthew Martinez, 27, was driving a Hyundai Elantra east on W Commerce St at excessive speeds when he strayed off the roadway and hit the pole around 12 a.m
Rescue crews extricated Martinez’s passenger, Joe Angel Palacios, 26, from the vehicle and transported him to an area hospital, where he died.
Martinez fled the area on foot once officers came to the scene of the accident. Officers located Martinez and charged him with intoxication manslaughter.
