Getting a motorcycle license can seem like a big task without any guidance on how to get it done. Luckily, the best motorcycle lawyers have your back!
To get a motorcycle license in Texas, you must first start with what it takes to get an unrestricted Class A, B, or C license.
Obtaining a Texas Driver’s License
First, you must provide proof of the following to apply for a driver’s license. US citizenship or evidence of lawful presence, Texas residency, Identity, Social Security Number, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance are necessary to apply for a Texas Driver’s License.
Additionally, you must provide evidence of completion of the Impact Texas Adult Drivers program (ITAD). If the driver is between 18 and 24 years of age, they will need to complete a six-hour adult driver education course.
After gathering the necessary documents and completing the required courses, you will need to complete the driver’s license application before arriving at the local office.
Next, you must make an appointment at the driver’s license office. At the appointment, provide your driver’s license application, proof of citizenship, Texas residency, identity, and social security number.
You will then need to provide your signature and thumbprint for your driver’s license. You will also have your picture taken for the driver’s license. Finally, before you begin the exams, you must pay the application fee.
Now, you will begin taking exams to receive your driver’s license. The first test will be the vision exam. Next will be the knowledge test. Finally, you will take the driving test.
After getting your standard Texas driver’s license, you must get your Class M (Motorcycle) license.
Getting your Class M (Motorcycle) license
To earn your Class M driver’s license, take an approved motorcycle safety course and bring your certificate of completion to the driver’s license office.
The Motorcycle Safety Course completion certificate is only valid for 24 months from issuance.
You will not have to take a motorcycle drive test if you are over 18, have completed a motorcycle safety course, and have a valid, unrestricted Texas Class A, B, or C license.
