Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. With everything going on around the world, it’s the perfect time for a special day dedicated to love. As we move through this next phase of the pandemic, it’s a perfect time for an extra boost of togetherness -masked and socially distanced, of course.
Options During Covid
Whether you’ve been together for a few months or a few decades, it’s no secret that Valentine’s Day planning is stressful. Some say it causes more anxiety than planning the first perfect date! This is true during normal times, but maybe even more so during this coronavirus pandemic. While in this next phase of the pandemic, restrictions play a part in the difficulty of planning for special occasions.
While things may look and feel different this year, there are still many options to help your Valentine’s day special. Whether you choose to celebrate indoors or somewhere exclusive with your partner or with your children, we’ve got you covered!
Valentine’s Day With Children
DIY Cards
Grab yourself some construction paper, crayons, or markers, and scissors. While you teach your child how to make a heart-shaped card, you can also give them a math lesson. For instance, they can also learn about symmetry when cutting only half the heart out of the folded piece of paper.
Cookies
Run to your local H-E-B for some sugar cookie mix, icing, and sprinkles! Let your children’s imagination take the reins on this one! Have some good, wholesome fun, and let your child’s artistic skills shine! Even better, video chat with their grandparents or other missed loved ones to join in on the fun and decorate together!
Outdoor Fun
Let your child get some sunlight. Create a “sweetheart” version of kindness rocks. Explore outside and find rocks to paint with messages like “XOXO”, and “LOVE”. Your child can get some outside playtime, and let their creative side take over.
Valentine’s Day With Your significant Other
Breakfast in Bed
Lucky for us, Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year. This gives us the weekend to plan out a nice breakfast in bed. Because everyone can appreciate a meal without having to leave the comfort of your bed, especially if it’s made by your loved one. Not to mention, it’s a great way to start your day. So make sure to start your Valentine’s Day right!
Bike Riding or Scooter Rides
Get active and take your bikes out for a spin. What better way to get some sunlight and fresh air? Bike rides will get that blood flowing. Don’t have bikes? Downtown Corpus Christi has scooters you can rent to take a night out on the town together!
Drive-In Movie
If you don’t mind making a short drive, New Braunfels isn’t too far of a drive. Stars and Stripes is the place to go for a nice drive-in movie date. With classics playing this weekend like The Notebook, 50 First Dates, and Sleepless in Seattle, you won’t be disappointed! And it could be a nice little getaway as well!
Couple’s Massage
Need a break from all the craziness in the world? Relieve some stress and book a couple’s massage for you and your loved one! A quick search for salons in the area will provide you with the many specials going on this weekend, but be sure to book them fast!
Going Out to Eat Out of the Question This Year?
Order some take out! Set up a couple of nice plates at home for you and your loved one. More of a pizza couple? You’re in luck! For instance, our local House of Rock makes heart-shaped pizzas, and you can pre-order for this special occasion!
Movie Night In
Don’t want to go out? You still have options! A movie night in is never a bad idea. Firstly, play a classic romantic movie on your big screen. Have a projector? Throw up your screen or even a clean, white sheet and give yourselves the movie theatre experience at home! Secondly, make some freshly popped popcorn, grab a couple of pickles. Now you have the perfect set up for a nice night in!
Whether you choose to celebrate this day dedicated to love at home or out on the town, please do so safely! Make sure to always practice social distancing and wear your mask. Protect yourself and your loved ones.
