SULLIVAN CITY, TX – According to KRGV, a teenager was killed after crashing into a tree during a police chase Tuesday night.
A Sullivan City police officer attempted to pull over a car close to the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 886 and Military Road at 10:31 p.m. Interim Sullivan City police Chief Joseph D. Cordova said the driver of the car stopped and several people exited the vehicle and fled. After the passengers scattered, the driver continued north on FM 886 and turned east on U.S. 83 as officers pursued.
Cordova said the car approached La Joya on U.S. 83, where the road is under construction. As the driver attempted to pass on the median, the car hit a palm tree.
The driver of the car, a teenager, was taken to McAllen Medical Center. La Joya police Chief Adolfo Arriaga said the teenager died of his injuries at the hospital.
Investigators have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
